Mayor Adams Recall Effort Officially Underway
Portland, OR July 7, 2009 2:10 p.m.
A recall effort against Portland Mayor Sam Adams is formally underway. April Baer reports that once the paperwork is approved, supporters have 90-days to gather enough signatures to force a citywide vote.
Chief petitioner Jasun Wurster says the recall volunteers were not satisfied by a recent Oregon Department of Justice investigation, in which Attorney General John Kroger decided not to file charges against Mayor Adams for his relationship with a younger man.
Jasun Wurster "John Kroger did not specifically say he exonerated Sam Adams. What he said is that he could not find enough evidence, or a credible witness to win in a court of law."
Now, Wurster says, voters should settle any lingering ethical questions about how Adams handled the matter.
Recall volunteers need over 32,000 valid signatures to make it to the ballot.
