Beaver Baseball Loss Comes As Shock To Fans
Bend, OR June 1, 2009 5:59 p.m.
The Oregon State baseball team lost a nail-biter late Sunday to end the Beavers season.
The loss comes as a shock to a fan base that has come to expect postseason success.
Ethan Lindsey reports.
All the Beavers needed to do was to win one more game, against Texas Christian.
Problem was, TCU clobbered the Beavers 13-to-1 in a Friday game.
The Beavers, now something of a college baseball powerhouse, took an early 4-to-nothing lead, but lost 5-to-4 in the ninth inning.
Jake Bertalotto is a Beavers fan, and blogs at Building The Dam.
Jake Bertalotto: “Having the past success, every time Beavers got down in those years, they pulled it out. And we’ve gotten so used to it, that when things don’t go our way, we’re just not used to it.”
Bertalotto says the loss hurts even more because the team has won two national championships in the past 4 years – and twice in a row ended the season relatively early.
