Oregon Senators Praise Obama's Supreme Court Choice

President Obama's pick for the Supreme Court wins some cautious praise from Oregon's Senators.
Senator Ron Wyden is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. That panel will conduct Sotomayor's confirmation hearing.
He was asked about Sotomayor when he appeared at a transit opening in Springfield.
Ron Wyden: “She certainly comes with an extraordinary background and an exceptional life story. I’ve heard a few of the remarks that have been made and it’s certainly a decision I want to commend the president for.”
Wyden indicated in a written statement Tuesday that he'd like to hear more about Sotomayor's views on national security and the limits of presidential power, as well as end-of-life issues.
Democrat Jeff Merkley is traveling in southern Oregon, but said in a telephone interview Sotomayor's knowledge of the law and her philosophy are important.
But he said the nominee's life experience deserves strong consideration, and that the court should reflect the diversity of the country.
