Canadian RV Dealer Makes Offer For Fleetwood Enterprises
Portland, OR May 8, 2009 2:59 p.m.
An RV dealer from Canada is offering almost $2 million for a bankrupt Eastern Oregon travel trailer company. Kristian Foden-Vencil reports.
Fleetwood Enterprises of La Grande filed for bankruptcy protection two months ago. It closed its plants in Pendleton and La Grande at a cost of about 400 jobs.
Now the owner of Arbutus RV and Marine Sales on Vancouver Island is offering $1.8 million for Fleetwood.
Arbutus president, Craig Little, told the East Oregonian Newspaper that demand for RVs in his market remains strong and he wants the Fleetwood plants to supply his five dealerships.
Little says he hopes to hire some laid-off Fleetwood workers, but he doesn’t know how many.
The offer would need court approval before going through.
