The private investigator hired to help the Eugene Police Auditor’s office look into allegations of police misconduct has quit.

Joyce Naffziger was investigating what happened during a downtown protest on May 30th of last year. KLCC’s Rachael McDonald reports.

Interim police auditor Dawn Reynolds says Naffziger had a number of reasons for resigning.

Dawn Reynolds: “Including constraints on her ability to interview police officers and then there were other issues perceived to be obstacles. It made it hard for her to be really independent.”

Reynolds says she’s hoping there can be changes to the ordinance so this does not happen in the future.

She says it’s unlikely her office will hire another private investigator on this case.

The inquiry centers on the arrests of three protestors in Kesey Square last May during an anti-pesticide rally.

University of Oregon student Ian Van Ornum was shot twice with a taser during the arrest.

All three men filed complaints with the auditor’s office about the police involved.
