Police Report Released On Adams' Accident
Portland, OR May 6, 2009 6:32 a.m.
Portland's Police Bureau has released a report on the weekend car accident involving Mayor Sam Adams. April Baer reports.
Sgt. R. K. Berry wrote the report, giving an account of a Sunday evening accident in North Portland's Jantzen Beach.
The report says Adams' truck was going north on North Hayden Island Drive, and tried to pass a Subaru on the right, just as the vehicle was turning.
Adams' truck collided with the car, pushing it into a third parked vehicle. No one was hurt in the accident.
One witness told police he smelled beer on Adams' breath. But Sgt. Berry's report says his colleague who arrived on the scene first did not detect any sign that Adams had been drinking.
No citation was issued for the accident.
The report says Berry gave orders that Adams be treated exactly as any other citizen.
Adams' spokesman has not returned phone calls about the incident.
