Willamina Schools Closed On Swine Flu Fears
Portland, OR May 1, 2009 1:52 p.m.
Schools and offices around Oregon are beginning to close as news the H1N1 Swine Flu virus is "probably" in the state. Kristian Foden-Vencil reports.
Offices of the Grand Ronde tribes are closed after a young child tested positive for type-A influenza.
That’s not necessarily the swine flu, but it makes it more likely that the H1N1 virus is present.
The tribal building will be sanitized over the weekend. Nearby, the Willamina School District closed its elementary, middle and high schools because two students live in close quarters with the Grand Ronde child.
Carrie Zimbrick: “We met as administrators and decided as a precaution to close our building as well.”
Elementary principal Carrie Zimbrick says theyíll open again Monday.
Western Oregon University has closed its campus in Monmouth until Tuesday because of a probable case.
The state also says the number of probable swine flu cases in Oregon has risen from one to four.
