Gregoire Won’t Be Surprised If Swine Flu Comes To Washington
Olympia, WA April 29, 2009 5 p.m.
So far no swine flu cases have been detected in Northwest states. But Washington Governor Chris Gregoire says that could change.
Gregoire gave a brief swine flu update Wednesday after a bill signing ceremony in Olympia.
Chris Gregoire: “Some people have suggested shutting the border. That isn’t going to stop it. It’s human-to-human contact. We already have it in ten states. So I will not be surprised if we have a case in Washington state.”
Gregoire advises: cover your mouth to cough or sneeze, wash hands frequently, avoid crowds and go to the doctor if you experience symptoms of the flu.
Later this week or early next, Washington expects to receive a shipment from the federal Strategic National Stockpile of about 230,000 doses of anti-viral flu medication just in case it’s needed.
