Last Day To Become A Voter Before May Election
Portland, OR April 28, 2009 12:06 p.m.
If you didn’t get register to vote in the mad rush to sign up last year - Tuesday is your last chance to join the bandwagon for the upcoming May election. Rob Manning has more.
If you were registered to vote in November, you’re likely still registered now. But few people have signed up since then. In fact, when you factor in voters who have died or left the state, Oregon’s electorate is virtually unchanged since last fall - at roughly two-point-one million voters.
And if you’re on the fence about registering today - you won’t exactly have the kind of world-changing issues that were on Oregon’s ballot last fall or spring: there's no presidential primary, there are no congressional races - there aren't even any statewide ballot initiatives.
Regardless, the Secretary of State’s office says that every registered voter in the state of Oregon will get a ballot this May. It’ll mostly have local school board and special district races.
Multnomah County elections’ is offering extended hours tonight to sign up last-minute voters in time for those local elections.
