Last year, Marcus Erikson, Anna Cummins, and Joel Paschal built a boat out of 15,000 plastic bottles.
Erikson and Raschal then sailed the boat from California to Hawaii to draw attention to the issue of plastics in our oceans on behalf of the Algalita Marine Research Foundation.
Erikson and Cummins are now riding their bicycles from Canada to Mexico handing out samples of ocean water filled with plastics.
OPB's Pete Springer caught up with them as they stopped in Portland and produced this audio slideshow about their efforts.
You can hear Erikson and Cummins talk in Portland Tuesday, April 21, 6:30 p.m. Details can be found here .
