Oregon Steel Mills' Russian Owner Announces Layoffs
Portland, OR April 1, 2009 12:24 p.m.
Evraz -- the Russian steel giant that acquired Oregon Steel Mills two years ago -- says it is going to temporarily lay off 225 workers at its Portland mill.
In a letter to the city it said the layoffs will start next month and are needed because of a slowdown in business.
The letter didn’t say how long the temporary cuts would last.
Evraz cut 130 workers from the same mill in November.
These new cuts will bring the number of jobs at the mill down from 1000 to about 650.
