Maintaining Healthy Trees And Safe Power - Audio Slideshow

Late winter/early spring is pruning seasons in many parts. But for Dave Johnson, who works as an arborist for PGE, keeping an eye on trees is a year-round enterprise.

He’s passionate about maintaining the health of trees growing near power lines.

It’s not always an easy job -- there are high voltage electrical lines to deal with -- and those lines are always on when the trees are being pruned.

OPB’s Pete Springer caught up with Johnson and crew of tree trimmers recently and filed this audio postcard.

I've always found PGE to be very knowledgable and sensitive about the conflict that can sometimes occur between the very dynmaic nature of vegetative growth and the static infrastructure (poles, wires). In my experience PGE has always done an excellent and safe job of pruning trees away from overhead conductors

I have always been in awe of the dangerous job those guys have getting up near all that deadly power. We owe thanks for the risks they take to keep our power on. My experience with PGE trimming has been nothing but great. Keep up the good work!
