Northwest Basketball Fans Scramble For Tickets

Eight Northwest major college men’s basketball teams will play in post-season tournaments this week. Their fans are scrambling to get tickets. The hardest to score are for the NCAA regional games in Portland and Boise. Correspondent Doug Nadvornick reports.

Among the eight teams playing at the Rose Garden in Portland on Thursday are the University of Washington and Gonzaga. Portland State plays Friday in Boise.

Each school was given 500 seats for its plans. Gonzaga ticket manager Chris Johnson says the university’s allotment was gone to season ticket holders within a few hours.

Chris Johnson: “Immediately after the selection show is announced, our development staff gathers and just starts calling people. It just depends where you sit on our priority point system.”

Gonzaga’s office, by the way, is doing double duty. It’s also distributing tickets for the women’s team, which will play in its NCAA tournament Saturday in Seattle.

Back to men’s hoops -- there are three other postseason tournaments for teams that weren’t picked for the NCAA tournament.

Oregon State and the University of Idaho are hosting games on Wednesday night.

Washington State, Boise State and the University of Portland all travel to California for games this week.
