A New Tool For Diagnosing Breast Cancer

Women who are diagnosed with breast cancer after having MRIs have a lot of questions.  Among them might be, "Is there any more cancer the MRI isn't showing?"  That's where BSGI comes in.

It stands for Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging.  It's a new procedure, and it found additional cancer in nearly 11 percent of the women in a recent study.

These were women who were recently diagnosed with breast cancer using MRI.

Nathalie Johnson led the research.  She's a surgical oncologist in Portland, and she tells us how BSGI works.
