Recall Starts In Effort To Remove Portland Mayor Sam Adams

A group of Portlanders is organizing to recall Mayor Sam Adams, but it's going to be a while before they can take action.

It's been a few weeks since Mayor Adams admitted to a relationship with Beau Breedlove, a young man who was eighteen at the time.

Investigators are determining if Adams is guilty of any criminal conduct. But about 330 people aren't waiting to hear more. They've registered at recallsamadams.com, in an effort to remove the Mayor from office.

Jasun Wurster is a spokesman for the campaign. He confirms that the Oregon Constitution's so-called Sour Grapes law prevents any action right now.

Jasun Wurster: "We have to wait six months before we can collect our first signature, but this is five months in which we can educate voters, and turn this into a positive campaign that brings people together."
Wurster says the group is not raising money, running solely on volunteers.

He says the group will not endorse any candidate to replace Adams, but will keep pressure on the mayor in public situations, and prepare for a summer signature drive.

Dear OPB Readers, I may have misled April in our interview, which I sincerely apologize for. Right now the group can not raise money as we have not filed as a Political Action Committee. We will have to raise money in the future to pay for voting lists, printing of the petitions, postage and other campaign costs. However, we are relying on 100% volunteers to gathers for our 'neighbor-to-neighbor' campaign to collect our goal of 50,000 signatures. We need your help to do this. If you no longer want Sam Adams as your mayor please sign-up at www.recallsamadams.com to help us make our government better. Again my apologies for any misinformation I provided, RecallSamAdams.com Jasun Wurster

BOYHOWDEE! Mr. Wurster If you can get 50,000 signatures for something as unimportant as this then I am ashamed to be a Portlander. There is so many more important and charitable ways people could spend their time and money. I hope they do not choose to spend it on hate and the creation of more contention. Let's get to work on something important people. I LOVE Portland!
