Washington’s Snoqualmie, Stevens, White and Blewett mountain passes are all closed because of avalanches or mudslides.
The I-5 Corridor is also being monitored closely in Lewis County where flooding over the roadway might close that highway as well.
Paula Hammond, Washington’s secretary of transportation says the sheer number of closed roads makes the situation dire.
Paula Hammond: "I've worked at the department for 30 years and this is the first time I've ever seen this happen."
Hammond urged drivers to stay away from flooded roadways, and to check the agency’s web site for up-to-the-minute updates on highway closings.
