More Rain Heading To Western Oregon This Week
Portland, OR January 5, 2009 12:22 p.m.
More heavy rain will likely move into western Oregon by mid-week, increasing potential for flooding and landslides. Pete Springer reports.
This has been a really wet January -- even by Oregon standards in the western part of the state.
Rainfall is already more than two inches above average for January.
And more rain is on the way.
Tyree Wilde: “It’s just a very active weather pattern which you have several weather disturbances moving across the Pacific and translating to the Pacific Northwest on their eastward progression.”
Tyree Wilde is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Portland.
He says that weather pattern will start by dumping lots of rain in western Washington.
Tyree Wilde “The area of heaviest precipitation then moves a little bit south, more focused on northwest Oregon and southwest Washington.”
This storm will arrive on the heels of the New Year’s Day storm. That storm left behind swollen rivers, downed trees, and areas of flooding, especially in Clackamas County.
Meterologist Tyree Wilde says people in central and eastern Oregon can expect warmer temperatures this week that could melt snow at lower elevations.
