Slide In Lake Oswego Forces Evacuations

A landslide on the northern edge of Lake Oswego early Friday morning forced the evacuation of more than 20 homes, and caused a handful of injuries. Rob Manning reports.

Rain-soaked ground on a steep hillside in suburban Lake Oswego slide into a home on Woodhurst Place around 1:30 in the morning.

Bonnie Hirschberger with the city of Lake Oswego says that house was one of 21 homes evacuated.

Bonnie Hirschberger: “Right now the city is working, trying to get a geo-technical company to come in and evaluate the landslide area. As soon as that is determined to be safe, the area to be safe, the residents will be allowed back in.”

The hilly neighborhood of $800,000 homes isn’t the only place in Lake Oswego in landslide danger.

Hirschberger says the same geo-technical firm looking at the night-time slide will examine a potential slide area near Highway 43. A road there has been closed due to landslide danger, and downed trees.
