Flood Warnings Replace Snow Warnings In SW Oregon
Portland, OR December 29, 2008 11:40 a.m.
Heavy precipitation and warm temperatures triggered flood warnings Monday throughout the southwest corner of Oregon. Rob Manning reports.
Flooding is not expected near Portland or along the North Coast, for now, but a flood warning has been established along the South Coast from Reedsport to the California border. It covers rivers as far as 100 miles inland.
Connie Clarstrom with the National Weather Service, says the flood warning is NOT unusual for this part of Oregon.
Connie Clarstrom: “What we see is heavy rainfall over a period of two to three days. And typically this does bring small-stream flooding, and localized river flooding, to the areas of Douglas, Coos and Curry counties.”
Clarstrom says the rain is expected to let up, so the worst flooding will probably come early this week.
Meantime, to the north, the winter weather may not be gone entirely. There are winter weather advisories covering much of the north Coast Range, and the Cascade foothills.
