Thaw Brings Its Own Set Of Problems
Olympia, WA December 24, 2008 2 p.m.
If you’re sick of all the snow piling up, you’ll be glad to know that temperatures are forecast to warm into the forties by the weekend in the lowlands around the Northwest.
But the thaw brings with it a host of new problems.
National Weather Service meteorologist Tyree Wilde says rain on snow will make for a slushy mess.
Tyree Wilde: “A lot of storm drains are probably blocked by snow berms and stuff like that. So there certainly is the potential for some type of urban street flooding because of that.”
Wilde says this is “a great time for citizens to pitch in.”
You can help by digging out the storm drains on your street so they drain effectively.
Wilde says flooding on major rivers is not in the cards over the near term.
