Roads around the state remained dangerous Monday, as snow kept falling and temperatures stuck below freezing.

Bend stayed in negative temperatures for most of the day, with skiers rejoicing as snow continued to accumulate in the mountains. As Ethan Lindsey reports, people in one Oregon city feel a bit lucky.

North Bend’s temperature held steady at 37 degrees – the highest temperature in the state.

The skies were blue and the winds were calm.

Residents say they’re loving the tropical breezes –tongues are only partially planted in cheek.

Chris Richmond oversees the city pool. He’s measured the water temperature, and it’s right at 84 degrees.

Chris Richmond: “I have my shorts on and my flip-flops on actually. We’re out getting some rays, and it’s clear blue outside, with a little breeze coming out of the west, from Hawaii.”

Oh yeah, the pool is indoors.

In reality, the city does benefit from a south Pacific offshore flow.

Visitor services coordinator Cheryl Crockett says the first thing refugees -- ummm, tourists -- should do is to go have a picnic on the beach.

Cheryl Crockett: “Pick up a bowl of chowder on the way in or the way out. The sun’s been out – and if you are standing in the sunshine, it’s almost warm!”
