Republican Challenger Not Conceding Governor’s Race
Seattle, WA November 5, 2008 1:28 a.m.
Democratic Washington Governor Chris Gregoire is declaring victory in her reelection campaign. But her Republican challenger Dino Rossi is not ready to concede defeat.
Rossi says more than a million votes remain to be counted and that he benefited from ticket-splitting by voters.
Dino Rossi: “The number of ‘Dinocrats’ out there were phenomenal -- the people that just said ‘I’m voting for Obama but Rossi as well.’ Logically, if they say they want change in D.C., then how do you turn around and vote for somebody who’s been in state government for forty years. That isn’t exactly change.”
Rossi says he has more faith in the integrity of the vote and the vote counting this year than in 2004.
Right now the actual vote tallies don’t look good for him.
Gregoire is leading in about twice as many counties as she did at this point in the 2004 match between these same two candidates.
