In Northeast Portland, Barak Obama’s victory tasted particularly sweet.

At the "Curious Comedy Theatre" on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard,  people gathered to watch the returns Tuesday night.

82-year-old Annie Caville, whose grandfather was a slave, was in tears and said she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

Taxi driver, Robert Hamilton, summarized the feelings of many at the theatre.

Robert Hamilton: “It think it’s time for a change. Change has a arrived. It’s a whole new day in the world. I was waiting for the shenanigans, I was waiting for the polling machines, I was waiting for the states to mess up. But the United States was just too together this time.”

Hamilton and others also said that perhaps now Portland won’t feel as much like the whitest big city in America.

Instead, they said, it feels like people are coming together to solve problems.
