New Poll Suggests Possible Shift in Washington Gov’s Race
Olympia, WA October 23, 2008 9:37 a.m.
A new poll shows Washington Governor Chris Gregoire opening up a lead over Republican challenger Dino Rossi. That may indicate a change in the dynamics of the race as Olympia Correspondent Austin Jenkins reports.
The new survey by independent pollster Stuart Elway puts Gregoire 12 points up on Rossi with a 51 to 39 percent lead. That’s different from other polls that have showed the race tied or within the statistical margin of error. That's why the Rossi campaign is dismissing the poll as an outlier. But Elway stands by his numbers.
Elway: "We surveyed as we always do 400 registered voters off of the registered voters list in Washington State. Asked them the same question that we’ve been asking all along and these are the numbers we got."
That question is: as things stand today how are you inclined to vote in the Washington Governor's race? Elway says as Election Day nears he’s seeing a shift toward Democrats in general – with Barack Obama improving his lead in Washington over John McCain.
