House Committee Considers New Voters' Guide Delivery Rules
Portland, OR October 13, 2008 2:13 p.m.
Legislation to ensure every registered voter in Oregon receives a voters’ pamphlet, was introduced at the House Elections Committee in Salem Monday.
It’s too late for this election, but if the bill passes next year, pamphlets will be available at retail outlets such as the UPS Store – where it’s possible to receive mail.
Currently, state law only requires pamphlets be delivered to every ‘post-office mailing address.’
Meanwhile, voters have until 5 o’clock Tuesday, to register to vote in the November 4th election.
Don Hamilton, with the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office, says you can even put it in the post Tuesday.
Don Hamilton: “Postmarks don’t count on vote by mail, but they do when you’re submitting your voter registration.”
Hamilton says more Oregonians than ever before are expected to register to vote in this election.
