McMinnville Sex Abuse Case Spawns $250,000 Lawsuit Against School District

The mothers of two McMinnville area middle schoolers are taking their school district to federal court.  As Andrew Theen reports, the case is another legal step in the infamous "butt swatting incident" last year.

Two McMinnville middle schoolers were initially charged with first degree felony sex abuse for poking and patting at least four of their classmates inappropriately.  Those charges were eventually reduced, then dropped.

The case drew national attention, and the boys' legal funds swelled from public donations.

Now the mothers of two girls say the school district didn't protect their children from the incident, and it essentially left them out to dry by publicly identifying them.

They seek damages of at least $125,000 for each girl.

The case is scheduled to be heard next year.

The two boys involved in the incident last year also have a lawsuit pending. Theirs is against the Yamhill County over juvenile strip-search practices.
