Hooley, Other Clinton Voters Gear Up For Hillary's Speech
Portland, OR August 26, 2008 2:35 p.m.
Hillary Clinton will speak to the Democratic Convention Tuesday night. Ethan Lindsey reports on how the Oregon delegation is reacting to calls for party unity between supporters of Clinton and Senator Barack Obama.
Several Oregon delegates say they are unsure whether they will vote for Senator Obama in the fall.
But they get a vote in Denver too - a roll call vote.
The Associated Press reports Democrats will proceed with a roll call vote where Clinton supporters can vote for her, but, then during New York's turn, Clinton will vote for Obama and ask everyone left to do the same.
That means Oregon's Clinton supporters may be asked to pledge for Obama.
West Linn Congresswoman Darlene Hooley says if that happened, she'd be disappointed.
Rep. Darlene Hooley: “I would. I am an Obama supporter, but it is a way to say, here was viable woman that we had running, that I supported, and I know she's not going to be on the ballot but for just a moment, I would like to have that vote.”
As part of her work for Senator Obama, before and after the speech, Hooley will be calling people gathered at house parties in Oregon to watch Clinton's speech.
She says she'll be talking about how Senator McCain's past voting record has been unfriendly towards women.
