Crews in the three Northwest states are racing the weather this week as they battle ten wildfires. Correspondent Doug Nadvornick has this roundup.

Fire officials are hoping to corral the largest fire in the region, a 21,000 acre blaze burning on the Colville Indian Reservation in northeastern Washington.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s later in the week. With no rain in sight, the projected containment date is Friday.

Fire spokesman Joe Anderson says crews are protecting 20 homes, an historic fire lookout and Indian burial grounds.

Joe Anderson: “Fortunate thing is that most of those are in the areas that are out of the timber.”

Two of the six fires burning in Oregon are now fully contained. One of the others has charred about 3000 acres near Burns. One structure is destroyed and others are threatened.

In Idaho, crews are battling three wildfires. The largest has burned about 700 acres, but none of those fires appear to be spreading.
