Klamath Falls Teacher Convicted Of Selling Drugs To Students

A Klamath Falls teacher is in jail Tuesday after she pled guilty to providing students with drugs.

Special education teacher Barbara Trotta was sentenced to 300 days behind bars and lost her teaching license as part of the plea deal with the district attorney.

Dave Groff is the chief deputy district attorney in Klamath County.

Dave Groff: “Typically, people who are engaged in possession and sale of controlled substances are placed just on probation or maybe 10 days jail. So a 300-day sentence is actually a pretty significant sentence. The abuse of the trust is what is particularly disturbing in a case like this.”

Originally charged with 17 counts, Trotta pled guilty to  one drug charge, of selling vicodin to a student. She also agreed to a no contest plea for 3 additional charges of involving minors in drugs and one charge of official misconduct.

While several of the alleged drug sales occurred off-campus, the crime she pled guilty to occurred on school property, according to the district attorney.
