Running is largely an individual sport.  But several couples from the Northwest tried to make this year’s U.S. Olympic team together.

The Olympic Track and Field Trials wrapped up Sunday.  Correspondent Tom Banse reports if any the elite pairs made it.

Earlier this year in Pocatello, discus thrower Ian Waltz popped the question to pole vaulter Stacy Dragila.  She said yes.  But before they’re united in marriage, they’d get a chance to be United States Olympic teammates.

Dragila watched her future husband make the big throws as she warmed up.  But then she failed to make the team for Beijing herself.

Stacy Dragila: “I’m going to go over there to support my fiancée Ian Waltz. At least I get to go and support him and that will be a lot of fun.  And then we’ll decide what I’m going to do next year.”

Portland runners Adam and Kara Goucher and Californians Ryan and Sara Hall also had the thrill of victory dampened by disappointment.

Kara Goucher and Ryan Hall made the team, then watched their spouses get nudged out in sprints to the finish.
