Fees Waived At Many Northwest Parks, Trails This Saturday

Northwesterners wave fewer excuses to sit on the couch this weekend. Many parks and trails will be free as part of a nationwide celebration of outdoor recreation. Correspondent Chris Lehman has more.
Saturday is National Trails Day, a day when volunteers perform trail maintenance and restoration projects. As part of the event, most federally-managed trails in the Northwest will be free.
In Oregon, admission to all State Parks will be free as well. And you’ll be able to fish without a license this Saturday in Idaho, and all weekend in Washington and Oregon.
David Lane of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife says you don’t even need to bring your own pole to some of the state’s most popular fishing holes.
David Lane: “Someone just needs to show up, and all those supplies are ready for them. There will be volunteers waiting for them, happy to show them the ropes on how to go fishing.”
Novice anglers shouldn’t get too carried away, though. Even though you don’t need a license, you’ll still have to follow the all the other rules in the state’s 112-page book of fishing regulations.
