Second Finalist Drops Out Of PSU President Search
Portland, OR April 25, 2008 1:41 p.m.
Portland State University has just lost a second finalist for its top job. As Andrew Theen reports, Kathie Olsen's withdrawal leaves just one finalist in the running for president of the state's biggest university.
The last candidate standing is University of Baltimore Provost Wim Wiewel. Former city commissioner Jim Francesconi sits on the State Board of Higher Education. And he chairs the presidential search committee.
He says losing two finalists just shows the "process is working."
Despite being the only candidate left, Wiewel isn't a shoe-in. Francesconi says, the candidate still has to prove he's the right man for the job.
Jim Francesconi: "The board will interview him and decide whether he is. If the board concludes that he's not then we'll reopen the process and talk to other people."
Francesconi said Wiewel is a "potentially terrific" candidate.
The Higher Ed Board has a meeting next week.
