Washington Caucuses Merely The Beginning Of Delegate Allocation
Olympia, WA February 8, 2008 11:12 a.m.
Statewide results from Washington’s caucuses should be available after 6 p.m.Saturday.
The key number the presidential contenders will want to know is how many nominating convention delegates they got.
Washington State Republican party chair Luke Esser says the numbers are bound to be somewhat imprecise.
Luke Esser: “It depends on how clearly or not a particular candidate wins the race for delegates. If it’s close, it’s going to be hard to tell. One of the reasons is that delegates can combine and change their minds.”
Esser explains that Saturday’s precinct caucuses are merely the first stage of a three or four step process for selecting delegates.
The process continues through the spring with county and state party conventions for both the Democrats and Republicans.
