Bend Council Settles With Juniper Ridge Developers
Portland, OR February 7, 2008 1:52 p.m.
The Bend City Council approved a settlement Wednesday night that gives the city the planning rights to the proposed 1,500 acre Juniper Ridge development. Andrew Theen reports.
Both city officials and the developers say the compromise is a fair one. The city will pay the developer, Juniper Ridge Partners, $2.5 million.
In turn, the developer will finish the master plan for the sweeping project and then hand it over to the city.
Jerry Mitchell is Bend's Development Manager for Juniper Ridge. It's intended to combine housing, business and even a university. He says despite a setback last year, the project was never in jeopardy.
Jerry Mitchell: "Obviously it had been delayed by the negotiations dragging on as long as they had. Now we're on a path to complete the master plan and get those 50 acres to market."
Juniper Ridge Partners has an option to purchase and develop those 50 acres.
Mitchell says he hopes the master plans will be finished by May. He'd like to see construction begin late this year.
