Feds Grant Millions For Hybrid, Biodiesel Buses
The U.S. Department of Transportation just announced 46 grants for clean transit initiatives across the country. Transportation agencies in Oregon and Washington were awarded a total of $9.2 million as part of a $112 million package aimed at greening public transportation.
Portland’s TriMet agency got $2.5 million to replace existing diesel buses with hybrid electric versions.
Washington transit agencies got a total of $6.7 million in grants including $2.5 million for electric vehicles in Douglas County, $1.1 million to buy biodiesel buses in Longview, $1.5 million for biodiesel buses in Thurston County, and $1.5 million to capture waste energy from trains in Seattle.
